Usage
- Use this rcat for any redirect that is the vernacular or common name for the scientific name of an organism that is targeted.
- An unnamed parameter may be used to specify more precisely the kind of organism involved and to put the article in the appropriate subcategory. For example,
{{R to scientific name|fungus}}
sorts the redirect to Category:Redirects to scientific names of fungi.
- Parameters currently supported and the resulting categories are:
Unrecognized switch parameters will place the page into the category Category:Redirects to scientific names using unknown values for parameter 1.
- To sort to the basic category, place this rcat on a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]] {{Rcat shell| {{R to scientific name}} {{R printworthy}} }}
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]] {{R to scientific name}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat only to tag mainspace redirects to scientific names of organisms. If the redirect is to some other scientific or technical name, then use {{R to technical name}} instead.
- This rcat automatically populates both Category:Redirects to scientific names or one of its subcategories and Category:Printworthy redirects. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from common names of organisms to their scientific nomenclatures are usually suitable for a printed version. In other words they are usually printworthy. For those such redirects that are not printworthy, set the parameter
|unprintworthy=
equal to "true" in the following manner:
{{Rcat shell| {{R to scientific name|unprintworthy=true}} {{R unprintworthy}} }}
- or if used individually:
{{R to scientific name|unprintworthy=true}}
- That will suppress the Printworthy redirects category and populate Category:Unprintworthy redirects.
Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
