Template:Kosovo-note
The political status of Kosovo is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, it is formally recognised as an independent state by 97 UN member states (with another 15 recognising it at some point but then withdrawing recognition), while Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory.
Kosovo-note was created to serve as a marker of neutrality regarding the Kosovo independence dispute, with the main idea of preventing usage of locational entries like:
... disputed province of Kosovo,
... Kosovo/Serbia,
... Serbian province of Kosovo,
... Serbia (Kosovo), etc.
This note can be used after the plain word Kosovo in the main text.
Suggested usage
Kosovo note may be used in articles where "Kosovo", "Republic of Kosovo", "Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija", etc. appear in a geographical or political context.
If the article has an infobox – usually at or near its beginning – and that infobox includes the word and/or phrase "Kosovo", "Republic of Kosovo", "Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija", etc., place
{{efn|name=status}}
immediately after whichever of these appears first in the infobox, without any space between it and the end of the word/phrase. For example:
... Republic of Kosovo{{efn|name=status}} ...
This needs only be done once.
{{efn|name=status}}
should then be placed similarly after the first instance of "Kosovo" or "Republic of Kosovo" or "Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija" etc. in the main body of the article. Again, it need only appear once.
Then add the following immediately before the article's References section (or, if the article already has a Notes section, amend it accordingly):
== Notes == {{Notelist|notes= {{efn|name=status|{{Kosovo-note}}}} }}
The article should now include a superscript after the first "Kosovo" or "Republic of Kosovo" or "Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija" etc. in its text and/or infobox that is linked to and from {{Kosovo-note}} in its Notes section.
