Template:Ds/talk notice
The use of discretionary sanctions has been sanctions link=saq}}|authorized by the Arbitration Committee for pages related to the Shakespeare authorship question, including this page. Please consult the awareness criteria and edit carefully. |
The Arbitration Committee has sanctions link=saq}}|authorized uninvolved administrators to impose discretionary sanctions on users who edit pages related to the Shakespeare authorship question, including this page. Provided the awareness criteria are met, discretionary sanctions may be used against editors who repeatedly or seriously fail to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behaviour, or any normal editorial process. |

This template warns people on the talk page that arbitration discretionary sanctions have been authorised. Discretionary sanctions allow administrators to act quickly and decisively to prevent misconduct.
The template requires you to declare which arbitration decision authorised discretionary sanctions, by specifying a #decision code.
You should place the template at the top of the talk page, below the header (if used) but above all other templates.
The template places the page into Category:Wikipedia pages under discretionary sanctions or Category:Pages with discretionary sanctions editnotice depending on usage unless nocat=yes
is included.
Anyone may place a discretionary sanctions talk page notice.[1]
The page it is placed on must be within the topic area of the arbitration case. Keep in mind that many topic areas are "broadly construed". Clarification of whether a page is in a topic area can be requested at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment.
Use
You may use this on the article talk page. You may also use it in an article edit notice for general information; however, edit notices about a special "page restriction" deployed under discretionary sanctions should instead be advertised using the special template.

Styles
The default is a wordy and detailed message:

gives:
The Arbitration Committee has sanctions link=saq}}|authorized uninvolved administrators to impose discretionary sanctions on users who edit pages related to the Shakespeare authorship question, including this page. Provided the awareness criteria are met, discretionary sanctions may be used against editors who repeatedly or seriously fail to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behaviour, or any normal editorial process. |
Alternatively there is a more concise, bold-print message:

gives:
The use of discretionary sanctions has been sanctions link=tpm}}|authorized by the Arbitration Committee for pages related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, including this page. If an article has sanctions but doesn't fit into one of the above topic areas, this template is unsuitable. Use sanctions instead.
