This template is for use on category pages for deaths by year in the Common Era.
To create such a page, add
{{Death year category header|D|Y}}
where D is the year without the last digit, and Y is the last digit of the year.
For example, for deaths in year 2017, add
{{Death year category header|201|7}}
The template will put the category into a parent category for deaths in that decade, Category:2010s deaths, as well as the category for events in that year.
