This template is used on approximately 3,300 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.

Usage

This template is intended to be put at the top of biographical articles which rely primarily or entirely on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) as a source. It places the articles in Category:Articles sourced by IMDb or an appropriate subcategory.

If a significant amount of material is attributed to sources other than IMDb, but there is still unreferenced material, consider using {{BLP refimprove}} instead. Add {{BLP unsourced section}} at the top of biographical sections with no references.

Parameters

This template takes three named parameters:

|date=, to add the date manually
|only=, if IMDb is the only source, then add |only=yes – the default is "no". The {{BLP IMDb-only refimprove}} template is a wrapper for this template with the |only=yes parameter included.
|living=, if the article's subject is not alive, then add |living=no – the default is "yes". This parameter set to "no" will omit the final sentence of the template, and the first link will then go to WP:BDP, which explains that WP:BLP may still apply to non-living persons under certain conditions.

{{BLP IMDb refimprove|living=no|date=December 2025}}: Paste-ready version for an article about a non-living person; the month and year are added manually and may also be added automatically as in above examples by use of the {{subst:DATE}} template.

{{BLP sources}} – for biographies of living persons (BLPs) that need additional references in general
{{BLP unsourced}} – for BLPs that do not include any references or sources
{{BLP more footnotes needed}} – for BLPs that include a list of sources or external links, but have insufficient inline citations
{{BLP no footnotes}} – for BLPs that include a list of sources or external links, but have no inline citations at all
{{BLP unverified}} – for stubbing inadequately referenced BLPs
{{BLP noticeboard}} – for BLP articles that are being discussed on the BLP noticeboard
{{Like resume}} – for biographical articles that promote the subject
