This template marks the status of a template as one of five levels:

All parameter values are case-sensitive.
prealphaandpaare aliases forpre-alpha.ais an alias foralpha.bis an alias forbeta.r,generalandgare aliases forrelease.protectandpare aliases forprotected.
It also adds the template to one of five categories (unless the parameter nocat is set to true):
- Category:Templates in pre-alpha development (1)
- Category:Templates in alpha (2)
- Category:Templates in beta (1)
- Category:Wikipedia template-protected templates (4)
