Template usage notes
  • Do not use this template unless there is an ongoing dispute in an article.
  • The editor placing this template in an article should promptly begin a discussion on the article's talk page. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant, then this tag may be removed by any editor.
  • The purpose of this group of templates is to attract editors with different viewpoints to edit articles that need additional insight. This template should not be used as a badge of shame. Do not use this template to "warn" readers about the article.
  • This template should only be applied to articles that are reasonably believed to lack a neutral point of view, and specifically because of systemic bias problems (for more unusual forms of bias, such as a heavily Bostonian or UFO-believing or anti-Nietzsche or whatever POV, use {{POV}}. The neutral point of view is determined by the prevalence of a perspective in high-quality reliable sources, not by its prevalence among Wikipedia editors, and is furthest from systemic bias when these sources are culturally diverse.

Usage

Place {{Systemic bias|bias=Topic or type of bias}} at the top of the disputed article, then explain your reasons on the article's talk page. To specify the section of the talk page, use {{Systemic bias|1=Talk page section name|bias=Topic/type of bias}}. Articles using this template as shown above are placed into Category:Wikipedia neutral point of view disputes. The |bias= parameter automatically italicizes whatever is specified there, and wikicode can be used (e.g. to link to a relevant article).

This template can take an optional date parameter in the format |date=Monthname YYYY or |date={{subst:DATE}}. If the date is not included it will probably be added later by a bot. Articles using this template with a date are added to Category:Wikipedia neutral point of view disputes from Monthname YYYY.

This template should only be used in the main (article) namespace. Do not place this template on talk pages, user pages, policies and guidelines, or other non-article pages.

  • This template is a self-reference.
  • Please do not subst this template.

Example using current date and other features

Template:

{{Systemic bias|1=European slant|bias=Western cultural values|date=April 2026}}

Output:

Unbalanced scales.svg
The neutrality of this article is questioned because it may show systemic bias. In particular, there may be a strong bias in favor of Western cultural values. Please see the discussion on the talk page. Please do not remove this message until the issue is resolved. (April 2026)

Alternatives

To mark only a section as disputed, rather than a whole article, use {{POV section}}. It is not WP:BIAS-specific. See below for a list of other WP:NPOV-related templates.

See Wikipedia:NPOV dispute for more info.
