Historical usage may differ from the modern connotation for this term:
Historical usage
Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]

This template is meant to allow editors to mention that the usage of a term in an article is not what a modern reader might think, without interrupting the flow of the text.

It takes unlabeled parameters (currently up to three; this can easily be increased if needed) and uses the existence of the second parameter to decide whether to give a singular or plural description. Unlabeled parameters should be links (enclosed in [[ ]]) or you can't follow them. This is intended to allow links either within Wikipedia or to Wiktionary or other sister projects with some fluidity.

If no unlabeled parameter is given, it defaults to a wiktionary lookup for the current page name.

The parameter "message" overrides the stock message.

The other parameters for Template:side box are passed through, if desired.

The above documentation is transcluded from Template:Historical usage/doc. (edit | history)
Editors can experiment in this template's sandbox (create | mirror) and testcases (create) pages.
