Use {{tl|open access}} to indicate manually that a [[research]]-based publication is available under [[Open_access_(publishing)|open access]] (not merely that it's accessible without subscription etc.).
For citations input with citation templates such as {{tl|cite journal}}, use [[Help:Citation_Style_1#Registration_or_subscription_required|the relevant parameters]] (such as {{para|doi-access|free}}) to indicate the access level for a given identifier.

After a <code><nowiki><ref></nowiki></code> tag and a citation input as free text, add:
* a space
* then {{tl|open access}}
* then a closing <code><nowiki></ref></nowiki></code> tag.
